META NOTE: You have been experiencing WaveCast, our attempt to bring the concert into your home via your internet connection. WaveCast Internet Theater audio feed is enginered by Modular's live concert engineers and reflects the quality of the live engineer's craft. This is a private test, invitation only stream.
In the beginning, 3/17, the live broadcast feeds were just from a tap off the headphone jack on the console into a laptop. The mix has been from monitoring the typical, instrument weak, FOH concert hall soundboard mix. Most other archived live recordings are also captured from soundboard PA mix cassette tape recordngs.
As of 4/23 we are using pro audio XLR console feeds. Venue B is added. The new upload/encode technician is able to set up his laptop with the software and upload his Wavecast inside a 10 minute phone call!
5/7- 2 more new venues are Wavecast enabled.
The WaveCast can be heard on a full range of platforms and browsers although it is Quicktime based. Upload is via WIFI or ethernet broadband internet connection at the console or audio feed source. Latency is about 7 seconds, but each connection varies slightly. Some venues have had a sluggish internet connection but it hasn't crashed the upload side of their connection. The system seems very stable.
The WaveCast data can also be captured to a Quicktime file as it is also uploaded to the WaveCast. The recorded file can be simply dragged and dropped right into iTunes and from there onto any iPod for podcasting, or burned to CD. These rebroadcasts are from playback of those files.
Video can be added to the WaveCast at any time as the system is video ready, BUT we feel Wavecast should not become TV. Users should be able to browse and shop at the venue and artist's web stores while they enjoy the WaveCast.
Support Live Entertainment. The WaveCast is simply a a way for venues and artists to add scale of admissions to their shows for either a sellout or half sold house. WaveCast can be scalled up and down on short notice for the number of concurent users or "seats" required. WaveCast is global. We receive and reply to emails from all around the world at the console as the show is mixed!
Send live feedback while enjoying WaveCasts via the CAMP ITHACA guest book to the left on this page.
Currently any rebroadcast has been double encoded and has MP3 bit loss accumilation errors. These problems will be easilly eliminated as the WaveCast will be captured and replayed by servers, not the office iPod or laptop we are demonstrating now. OnDemand Servers are becoming enabled and we are also improving the encoder link of the system and taking dedicated XLR post fader aux mix feeds.
End result is better sound quality and a much, much better audio mix. Enjoy -
